The seal groove decides the service life
On a hydraulic cylinder the seal groove decides the service life. Groove width, depth, corner radii and the finish on the sealing land matter more than the headline diameter, and they are the features a general machine shop most often gets approximately right. These are turned complete on the turn-mill centre, so the groove and the bore are cut in one clamping.
- Materials
- Carbon and alloy steels, EN8 and EN19 class materials, stainless including 316 and duplex, bronze for wear bands and bearing surfaces.
- Size range
- Turned to 315 mm diameter with 106 mm through the spindle, and to approximately 700 mm between centres on the turn-mill centre. Longer work runs on the turning centres at up to 1200 mm.
- Features handled
- Seal and wiper grooves to profile, sealing lands, wear band recesses, port drillings, external and internal threads, spanner flats and cross holes cut with driven tooling in the same setup.
- Inspection
- Groove profiles on the Mahr MarSurf contour tester, which is the instrument that actually proves a seal groove. Surface finish on sealing lands measured with the Mitutoyo SJ-410. Bores and diameters on the CMM, with air gauging for repeat volumes.

Certification route
Anicon holds ISO 9001:2015. Where a part calls for IATF 16949 it is supplied through Versatile Equipments Pvt Ltd, certified to IATF 16949 and ISO 9001:2015. Anicon’s own IATF certification is in progress.
